Spiritual Reset – Part 2

We talked last post about some natural resets that seem to always happen at the beginning of the year.   Things like being healthier, being better with money, stronger relationships, and many other resolutions that cover the natural side of life.

The most important reset in our lives is our spiritual reset.

We talked about David, Peter, and Jacob how they made things right with God through repentance and through this spiritual reset, they all did great things for God.

Each of these examples showed how great God’s mercy is and that today is not too late for you and I to make it right with God.

Let me remind you… IT IS NOT TOO LATE!

When God made man and woman, He created them to live forever in a perfect environment with everything they could ever hope for to survive. As a matter of fact, there was just one tree they could not partake of…. but of all the other trees, they had full reign.

In this perfect world, God still gave man and woman the freedom of choice. Because of this, Satan decided to work against mankind’s flesh and appeal to their eyes (the body).

Let me pause here, if you are making decisions based on the body (the flesh) and not the spirit, you will fail when you are tempted every time.

That is what happened, the fruit of the tree looked pleasant to their eyes. (the body).

What did sin and disobedience do to them? It separated them from God.

Sin will ALWAYS separate you from God.

We talked about David last post and Psalms 51. Why did he need to be restored? Because sin separated him from the joy of God’s salvation.

Since the fall of man, all humans are born separated from God. Because of this, we need a Savior.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23

We are ALL in need of restoration.

We are ALL in need of a spiritual reset.

Here is the great news– God didn’t throw away grace and He did not throw away His mercy because of this mistake!

He promised one day there would be a seed of a woman that will redeem man from this fallen state. This is a prophecy of Mary and the virgin birth.

“And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:” Genesis 3:14

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head (Jesus will bruise the head of Satan), and thou shalt bruise his heel (Satan will bruise Jesus’ heal).” Genesis 3:15

This whole scripture paints a picture of the cross. Although Jesus would have great victory, there still would be a great cost.

All of this was an act of God’s grace and His promise to rescue and to restore all of mankind.

In other words, a spiritual reset!

Guzik writes, “There is no doubt this is a prophecy of Jesus’ ultimate defeat of Satan. God announced that Satan would wound the Messiah (you shall bruise His heel), but the Messiah would crush Satan with a mortal wound (He shall bruise your head). It was as if God could not wait to announce His plan of salvation, to bring deliverance through the one known as the Seed of the woman.”

Spurgeon comments, “The heel is the part within the serpent’s reach. Jesus, in taking on humanity, brought Himself near to Satan’s domain so Satan could strike Him. “That bruised heel is painful enough. Behold our Lord in his human nature sore bruised: he was betrayed, bound, accused, buffeted, scourged, spit upon. He was nailed to the cross; he hung there in thirst and fever, and darkness and abandonment.”

This is how much God loves you and me.

Even when we mess up and run and hide from God, He makes a plan that we can be restored to the joy of His salvation.

You and I may have inherited this sinful nature because of Adam and Eve, but we have a greater inheritance of salvation.

Look what Paul said to the church of Ephesus….

“Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God  for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God.

And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.” Ephesians 1:11-14 NLT

The enemy has tried to steal our inheritance from day one…..but today, you can get it back.

It’s time for a spiritual reset!
